Veterans Memorial Park

As ages pass,
let this monument stand to remind us
of the wars we have fought and
of the sons we have sacrificed --
Not to glory the war --
but to remember why we fought;
so that blood was not spilled in vain,
that the bell will always ring,
that lady liberty will always stand tall,
that our flag will always fly!

--Wm. Barry Brunson

Veterans Memorial Park

This park, a long time dream of Past-CEO and President J.R. Brunson, is dedicated to the memory of those men and women from Coffee County, Alabama who made the supreme sacrifice in defense of our Nation. The names of those who died in World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam are displayed. Also on display are plaques commemorating the service of Coffee County service members during Desert Storm, and commemorating the military service of women. Static displays currently include an M101 Towed Howitzer and a UH-1 Huey (“Iroquois”) helicopter. The Park also includes the Sergeant Jason Jordan Memorial – in memory of a Coffee County native killed in action in Iraq during the War on Terrorism. The memorial has a large central plaza which has a 45 foot white star with a blue background. Widely used to identify U.S. planes in WWII, this emblem serves as a constant reminder to local army aviators of our appreciation for their commitment. The theme of the 5-point star is carried out in the five lanes of the walkway and five steps to the central plaza. From the points of the star fly the flags of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard to honor veterans from each branch of service. The park is open around the clock daily with the U.S. flag lighted at night. For the dedication of the memorial, Wm. Barry Brunson, the late son of President J.R. Brunson, penned the above words to commemorate the fallen soldiers. We welcome you to come view the memorial and repeat the Pledge of Allegiance.
